The Sea Holds Secrets…..
When starting this painting, I knew I wanted to paint an ocean/water theme, but originally thought it would be a night sky and a moon! But the painting decided it wanted to be an ethereal sky full of fluffy clouds with birds dancing above the water. Sparkled with gold and stamped with a beautiful quote! It became a dreamy seascape, one I imagine walking right into.
The painting started with a wet canvas, using water, then swiping deep blues, like prussian blue and anthraquinone blue- a gorgeous color, with lots of wiping, moving paint around, spraying with water, and even an airbrush machine to move the paint around giving it this watercolor effect!
I flipped the painting over to reveal that it indeed appeared to look as if it had a sky and sea, and more light colors on the top, so I filled the spaces with thick brush strokes of white. The quote just felt perfect and using small lettering stamps, etched this quote into the scene.
The rest came to be as I moved around the painting, the birds, the gold sparkles.
